Our Best Back-to-School Kitchen Organizing Tips
Getting into the rhythm of early morning rising, out-the-door hustle and after-school activities isn't easy. That's why we've gathered some of our favorite back-to-school kitchen organizing tips so you and your kiddos make this the best year yet!
Grab-and-go snack station
Organize all the pouches, bars and bags so kids can grab what they need and pack it themselves. These long narrow bins make great use of deep under-cabinet storage space on pull-out drawers.
If bulk buying is your thing, these clear lidded jars allow self-service. Large chip bags are corralled in bins, including one we custom-labeled Eat First for open bags.
Breakfast station
Ease into your morning by stocking breakfast items together. Whether it's a quick bite of toast with spread, whipping up a batch of waffles or gathering fresh eggs from the backyard coop, this breakfast station provides focus to the daily routine.
We especially like decanting in clear containers so everyone can see how much is available before the morning pour. We reused our client's existing containers and added custom labels to elevate the look. No more empty cereal boxes taking up valuable space!
Food storage station
Packing up leftovers is convenient when storage containers are organized. We got rid of anything that didn't have a matching lid and nested the container sets with their lids to save space. We separated glass and plastic and finally added labels in English and Spanish so the client and their housekeeper know where to put things away.
We fit these pull-out drawers with divided bins with removable inserts for Bento boxes and reusable bags. Little brother has his shatter-proof plastics nearby so he can be included in getting his own meals while his big sisters are at school.
Lunch-making zone
We're big fans of storing like with like items, especially when it comes to school lunches. We created an organizing system for this client that minimizes searching for pantry staples. The toaster stays plugged in next to the bread. Disposable napkins and utensils along with lunchbox toss-in's reside nearby.
Hydration station
Keep your travel cups contained with storage bins. These have wheels and can easily be pulled out to access everything, even in deep cabinets. Whether it's Yeti, Stanley or a favorite sentimental tumbler, we matched lids and grouped by category so everyone can see what they need when it's time to hydrate.
We added a drawer for hydration gels, powders and mixes next to fridge and the cups for portability and visibility.
